Lantana is a master-planned community in Denton County, northwest of Fort Worth. It is served by Denton ISD, it is built around a large shared amenity package, and it carries two water district tax rates on top of a normal property tax bill.
Whether it fits you comes down to four things you can check.
Those are the school grade, the full tax bill, what the dues cover, and the drive to work.
This post walks through each one. Every number has its source.
Denton ISD serves Lantana. The district lists Lantana on its own Communities Served page. Four of its schools sit inside Lantana.
Three of them are grade schools: Adkins, Blanton, and E.P. Rayzor. The fourth is Harpool Middle School.

Some sites claim Lantana is split with Argyle ISD. Argyle ISD's own zone pages do not list Lantana. We could not confirm a split from any district source.
High school is the part that varies. Denton ISD runs several, and the one you get depends on the address.
Verify current boundaries with the district before you make an offer. Start at Denton ISD's own attendance zone maps. That page links its address lookup tool.
Denton ISD earned a C for 2025-26, with a score of 76 out of 100. That is down from a B and a score of 80 the year before.
The state put out those grades on 2026-08-14. Look up any district or school on txschools.gov or through the state's rating page.
One caution. The district's own page still showed the old B when we checked on 2026-09-08. Use the state's number.

A grade measures how a school did on state tests. It does not describe a street or the people on it.
Lantana homeowners pay HOA dues, plus a water district tax rate that most buyers do not budget for. The two are separate charges, and only one of them is published.
Lantana sits inside two Denton County Fresh Water Supply Districts. They work like a MUD, a small local tax district that pays for water, sewer, and drainage.

Both districts publish their rates. No. 6 charges $0.59162 per $100 of value. No. 7 charges $0.64988 per $100.
That rate lands on your tax bill next to the county and school rates. On a $600,000 home, the No. 6 rate runs about $3,550 a year, and the No. 7 rate about $3,900.

HOA dues are a separate charge. The current amount is not posted in public anywhere. The resident site needs a login, and the HOA's filed papers list only transfer fees.
Do not trust an HOA number you find on a real estate blog. The ones going around trace back to 2019.
Ask the HOA's manager, Insight Association Management, for the current number. The seller's resale packet also has it.

Look up the specific address, not "Lantana." High school assignment varies inside the community.
Ask which of the two districts the home sits in. Add that rate to the county and school rates. Then compare Lantana to anywhere else.
Ask for the current dues, the HOA budget, and any special assessment coming up. A special assessment is a one-time charge for a big repair.

Drive from the address to your workplace at the hour you would actually leave.

The HOA runs five pools, two gyms, tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, and trails. All of it is shared property, paid for by dues.

Two Junior Olympic size pools sit at the North and South amenity centers. Three more sit in the Larkspur, Sandlin, and Heritage sections.
The south center has a water spray park. The north center has a swim lane pool and a kiddie pool.
There are four lighted tennis courts plus a stadium court, and one basketball court. Playgrounds sit in seven sections, from Larkspur to Magnolia.
Hike and bike trails run all through Lantana. Four tunnels run under Lantana Trail so walkers do not cross traffic.

No. Lantana Golf Club is a private club operated by Arcis Golf, not an amenity your HOA dues cover.
It is an 18-hole course inside Lantana, designed by Jay Morrish. To play it you buy a club membership. That is on top of what you pay the HOA.
Worth knowing before you weigh Lantana against a place where the dues do cover the golf.

Lantana sits along US-377, roughly the same distance from downtown Fort Worth as from downtown Dallas.
Downtown Fort Worth is about 33 miles by I-35W. Downtown Dallas is about 34 miles by I-35E.
Those are Google Maps distances, checked 2026-09-08. Drive time swings with traffic. Treat any one number as a starting point.
Drive the route yourself before you commit to an address. Go at the hour you would really leave.

The trade-offs are plain. Big shared amenities come with dues and a water district rate. A C-rated district has schools that vary. A spot between two cities means a real drive either way.
None of that makes Lantana right or wrong for you. These are the things to check before you write an offer.
An agent can pull the zoned schools, the water district, and recent sales for any address you like.
