Have You Outgrown Your Home?

As your life changes and your family grows, so do your needs in a home. You may begin to need more space, less space, or different features than you currently have. Here are some ways to determine if you may have outgrown your current home:

Space – One of the most common reasons for outgrowing your current home is simple – space. If your family has grown or is planning to grow, you may need a larger home. Alternatively, outgrowing your current home may mean needing less space. As children become older and begin to leave the nest, families may find themselves wanting a smaller space to live in and maintain.

Entertaining – If entertaining friends or hosting family at the holidays is something that you enjoy, make sure that your house accommodates that. If you find yourself cramped for space or needing a kitchen that is equipped for large-scale cooking, it may be time to start looking for a new home.

Finances – Your first home may not have been your dream home, but it fit your basic needs and current budget. If you are now in better financial shape, it may finally be time to find a home you really love! In contrast, if you are finding it difficult to make your monthly mortgage payment, you may consider downsizing your home so that you can be more financially comfortable.

PetsPets can bring a lot of joy to a family, but many require extra space. If you are thinking about bringing a furry friend into your home, you may need extra indoor space as well as a larger yard.

Convenience – If you find yourself making a longer commute to work than you would like, it could be time to find a home closer to your office. Additionally, if you are constantly driving to a different city to eat at your favorite restaurant or visit friends, you might want to consider a move to make the things you enjoy more easily accessible.

Before you begin searching for a new home, consider what you can handle financially. While a larger home with a big kitchen may be what you want, you should not stretch your finances if you cannot really afford it.
